Over the last days, the public got wind of the fact that the opera „Idomeneo“ got cancelled, because there was the fear that radical islamists might take offence and thus do something stupid, like, bombing the place.
Disregarding the question if it is really necessary to alter the staging to include some possible blasphemy, Florian Rötzer pointed out something very important:
The whole thing got cancelled, after the Berlin Interior Minister remarked that it would be sad if the whole building got bombed down just because of this opera. Of course, officially he didn’t say „shut it down, lest a bomb falls“.
But the context was quite clear indeed: FUD all the way. Congratulations to kowtowing to the higher principle of shutting down public life in order to enforce even more security measures.
