Bashing on an Intendante

Over the last days, the public got wind of the fact that the opera „Ido­m­e­neo“ got can­cel­led, because there was the fear that radi­cal isla­mists might take offence and thus do some­thing stu­pid, like, bom­bing the place.

Dis­re­gar­ding the question if it is really necessary to alter the staging to include some pos­si­ble blas­phemy, Florian Rötzer poin­ted out some­thing very important:

The whole thing got can­cel­led, after the Ber­lin Inte­rior Minis­ter remar­ked that it would be sad if the whole buil­ding got bom­bed down just because of this opera. Of course, offi­ci­ally he didn’t say „shut it down, lest a bomb falls“.

But the con­text was quite clear indeed: FUD all the way. Con­gra­tu­la­ti­ons to kowtowing to the hig­her prin­ciple of shut­ting down public life in order to enforce even more secu­rity measures.
